St. Louis Bicycle Works is partnering with REI to host a bicycle drive to collect adult and children’s bicycles. Your donations will benefit children and young adults in the St. Louis area by giving them an opportunity to receive a Bike. Bicycle Works provided over 1000 Bikes in 2012 and needs your help to continue our efforts to provide positive outcomes in our community.

Cranksgiving 2012 will be the 7th Annual event here in St. Louis. Cranksgiving is a yearly food drive presented by St. Louis Bicycle Bworks (now St. Louis BWorks) with major support from Ameren Missouri and in cooperation with Schlafley Bottleworks located at 7260 Southwest Avenue, St. Louis, 63143 with all donations made to Food Outreach located at 3117 Olive Street, St. Louis, 63103.

Cranksgiving began in New York City in 1999 as a food raising event for a local food pantry by the NYC bicycle messengers. It was originally a bicycle messenger race that also raised food for the needy. After the success and excitement of this first event the concept began to migrate from city to city and is today a nation wide event in which cycling enthusiasts from different cities host what is today a family fun ride on the first Sunday in November. The ride takes a route past a number of different grocery and food outlet stores who often support the event by assisting riders as they stop to purchase food. Riders are asked to purchase a minimum of $20 worth of non perishable food during their ride that is then donated at the rides conclusion.

St. Louis’ Annual Cranksgiving has been the biggest and best supported for the past two years raising in excess of 7,000 food items annually with over 800 local riders of all ages participating. Click here to read a St. Louis Post Dispatch article about the Cranksgiving 2011 Ride.

St. Louis Bicycle Works

Come join us on Saturday, October 13 from 6 to 10 PM at St. Louis Bworks located at 2414 Menard Street in the Soulard area.

This will be a block party and birthday party and all are welcome.  Come along, bring the family, invite a friend.  There will be fun and food for purchase at food trucks from :  L’École Culinaire, Frostbite Gourmet Ice Cream, & Papa Tom’s Fancy Franks.

Bworks is also celebrating its first year in our new Soulard location and we would like to thank the local community for its warm welcome.

Bworks began in 1988 as St. Louis Bicycle Works and was originally located in the Shaw neighborhood.  For the past 24 years we have  served the kids of the St. Louis area guided by our idea that, “Children – or any young people for that matter – can thrive when they have the opportunity to challenge their abilities in a safe, supportive environment”.  To that end, over the years, we have developed three touchstone programs designed to imerse kids in a specific task that supports learning, enhances group cooperation and builds character through our Earn-A-Bike, Earn-A-Computer & Create-A-Book programs.

You can become apart of our efforts by donating your time or money, donating a bicycle, bike parts or computer, or simply by stopping by Bworks and purchasing a bicycle for yourself or members of your family.  Bworks is a volunteer run 501(c)(3) organization with 2 1/2 paid staff and over 120 regular volunteers.  Your donation or your support through a purchase goes directly into our kids programs.

Saturday, October 13 • 6 – 10 PM

The Lake Saint Louis Police Department is partnering with BicycleWorks to take those old bicycles off your hands!  The bike drive will take place on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Lake Saint Louis Farmers and Artists Market.  The market is located on the south lots of The Meadows shopping center at Highway 40 & Lake Saint Louis Blvd.

Members of the police department’s bike patrol unit will be on hand to assist BicycleWorks with the collection of bicycles of any style and in any condition.  In addition, bicycle parts will be accepted.  Bike patrol officers will distribute bicycle safety information during the event.

The old bikes, or bicycles in need of repair, will be reconditioned or rebuilt by BicycleWorks (www.bworks.org).  They will eventually find their way to deserving children, who may not be able to afford to purchase a bicycle on their own, but have the opportunity to earn one through various programs and projects.

The City of Wildwood has partnered with BicycleWorks and, on June 9, 2012, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., the City and its partner will take the old bicycle off your hands! Any Bicycle! It does not matter what condition it is in! Bicycle parts will be taken also. In fact, anything with wheels can be brought to us: bicycles, tricycles, scooters, wagons, baby strollers – any item that is non-motorized with wheels.  The old bikes, or bicycles in need of repair, will be reconditioned or rebuilt by BicycleWorks and eventually find their way to deserving children, who cannot afford to purchase a bicycle on their own, but who will earn one through various programs and projects.

The event will take place at the Wildwood Town Center Plaza, 221 Plaza Drive, Wildwood, Missouri 63040. After you drop of the bicycle, you can visit the Farmers Market! It will be a great day!

Help us help kids by becoming a Bworks volunteer.  Each month on the first Tuesday Bworks holds its volunteer orientation for those who want to help us make a difference for kids.  Starting at 7 PM, learn about us and ways you can help.  Get involved, get started.

Bworks needs your help as an St. Louis Urban Assault Bworks Volunteer!

The Urban Assault Ride™ is the biggest Bicycle Obstacle Event series in the nation! Here’s how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for ‘checkpoints’ on your favorite two-wheeled steeds.  At each checkpoint, you’ll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more. The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. You choose your own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors.
