Bworks is always looking for more Earn-A-Computer instructors!

You don’t have to be a teacher, public presenter, or computer science
graduate, because you can learn from other volunteers. Our team of
instructors has created an exciting and different curriculum for kids
4th-8th grade that includes creating games using MIT’s “Scratch” software
and learning binary on the very first day of class.

This 6-week course strives to show computers as tools for creating and learning. We also pass on important qualities including online responsibility and respect, communication, problem solving, critical thinking and community awareness.

We have Tuesday evening classes from 6:00 – 7:30, and Saturday classes from 11:00 to 12:30 and 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Join us for Instructor Orientation at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6th
to learn more about the Bworks programs, see our new building in Soulard
and meet other instructors.

Flat Panel Monitors Urgently Needed!

Our Earn-A-Computer (EAC) program is in urgent need of flat-panel monitors, 15″ or 17″ prefered. These monitors are used as part of the package that students who successfully complete the EAC program receive upon graduation.

Bworks and its ByteWorks computer component is a 501(c)(3) organization so your donations are tax deductible.

Congratulations to the graduates of the December Earn-A-Computer program.

During the course kids attend a series of hands-on courses gaining both skills and knowledge using computer technology.

These skill set and practical knowledge will translate into new ways of learning and creating.

Mr. Hill has been a volunteer at Bworks for six years, helping teach the Earn A Bike program and supporting the program with his knowledge and time. His volunteering helped us grow the Earn a Bike program each season and over the years we have watched him grow his mechanical ability into a teaching ability. For the last couple years He has been studying at UMSL to complete his teaching certificate.

Mr. Hill has accepted the position of Program Lead, he will be leading our efforts to offer our programs to even more students through extended programing hours and off site programming in 2012.

Our Earn-A-Bike, Earn-A-Computer and Book Works programs provide kids the incentive and opportunity to develop their academic, vocational, and social skills. We’re always looking for more instructors, and there’s no need for you to be a bike mechanic, techie or author! By committing to volunteer a few hours a week and sharing your knowledge, you can help kids learn the importance of responsibility, respect, communication, problem solving, critical thinking and community awareness.

Join us for Instructor Orientation at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29th to learn more about our programs, see our new building in Soulard, and meet other instructors. It’s the perfect time to get involved!

St. Louis BWorks is moving to Soulard! The new facility will support the continued expansion of Bicycle Works, Byte Works and Book Works so even more youth can get involved. Please join us in celebrating the grand opening of our “new” turn-of-the-century home!

Light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served, plus games for the kids, great raffle prizes and a silent auction.
